Your First Spray Tan in Arlington: What to Expect

If you've never had a spray tan, you probably have a few worries. Will I turn orange? Will it streak? What do I wear? Is it awkward?

You're not alone. Almost every first-timer who walks into my studio feels a little nervous, and almost every one leaves wondering why she waited so long. Here's exactly what to expect at your first Golden Hour tan, from booking to your first shower.

Will I Look Orange?

This is the number one fear, and it's a fair one. Orange tans usually come from the wrong shade for your skin, too much solution, or uneven application.

That's why every tan at Golden Hour starts with a personal consultation. I look at your skin tone and undertones, ask how deep you want your color, and match your solution to you. Every tan is hand-applied with an airbrush, so I can control exactly where the color goes and build a natural glow instead of a one-size-fits-all shade.

If you want a subtle, "just got back from vacation" look for your first tan, just tell me. We can always go deeper next time.

Choosing Your Tan

When you book, you'll see two main options:

  • Signature Glow Spray Tan ($75): My custom, hand-applied tan. It develops over about 8 hours, and you rinse when it's done. This is a great choice for your first tan, especially if you book in the evening and sleep in it.

  • Rapid Glow Spray Tan ($85): Rinse in just 1–3 hours. The longer you wait, the deeper your color. Perfect when you're short on time.

Not sure which to pick? Book a free Glow Consultation call, or choose Signature Glow and we'll talk it through at your appointment.

You can also add extras when you book:

  • pH Balancing Prep: preps your skin for smoother, more even color

  • Hydrating Finish: locks in moisture for a longer-lasting glow

  • Vanilla or Pineapple Scent: a light, sweet finish for your tan

Before Your Appointment

A little prep makes a big difference:

  • Exfoliate and shave at least 24 hours before.

  • Come with clean skin: no lotion, deodorant, makeup, or perfume.

  • Wear loose, dark clothing and slip-on shoes.

Finding the Studio

My private studio is in Suite 22 inside Salons by JC at 3865 Wilson Blvd in Ballston.

Enter through the front door, turn right past the front desk, then take another immediate right, and you'll see me on your right. The front desk team is always happy to point you my way.

Paid street parking is available along Wilson Blvd, with short-term parking in the lot across the street. Coming by Metro? The studio is a short walk from the Ballston-MU station.

Please arrive about 5 minutes early so we have time for your consultation.

During Your Tan

Golden Hour Tans serves women only, so the studio is a private, relaxed space. During the tan, wear whatever feels comfortable to you: a bikini, underwear, or nothing at all.

I'll guide you through a few simple poses as I work so every area gets even coverage. The solution feels cool and misty, and the tan itself takes about 20–30 minutes. Most first-timers are surprised by how quick and easy it is.

Before you leave, I'll go over your rinse time and aftercare so you know exactly what to do next.

The First 24 Hours

Right after your tan, you'll look a shade or two darker than your final color. That's the bronzer, which shows where the solution went. Your real tan keeps developing underneath.

  • Let it develop. Avoid water, sweating, and tight clothes until your rinse time: about 8 hours for Signature Glow, or 1–3 hours for Rapid Glow.

  • Your first rinse is water only. Use lukewarm water, no soap, and pat dry. Some color will wash down the drain, and that's normal. It's just the bronzer.

  • Moisturize daily starting the next day to keep your tan even.

How Long Will It Last?

Most spray tans last about 5–10 days, depending on your skin, your shade, and your aftercare. Lighter tans and dry skin tend to fade faster, and daily moisturizing helps your color fade evenly.

Tanning for an event? Book 1–2 days before so your color is fully developed and at its best.

Ready for Your First Glow?

Your first spray tan should feel easy, comfortable, and exciting, and that's exactly what I want for every client who walks through my door. Whether you're getting ready for a wedding, a trip, or just want to feel your best, I can't wait to help you glow.
